In its 600 hectares of Secondary Atlantic Floresta, classified by the Brazilian Institute of the Enviroment (IBAMA) as a Zone of Rigorous Preservation, the flora of the Reserve of Sapiranga shelters species like sucupira, angelim, imbaúba, gamelera, wood-palomo, licuri, dendé, piazava, orquídeas, bromélias, and where they inhabit jaguatiricas, micos, coatis, pacas, sluggish, deer, juparás, tie's-fogo, surucuás, iguanas, boas and jararacas. The Reserve of the Sapiranga, through the collection of an entrance fee (R$5,00 in June of 2003), maintains a Training Environmental Center, where it’s possible to find forest biologists, guards, maps, mini-library, local crafts, a small breeding ground of native plants and some animals in rehabilitation, besides to develop to the signaling of the zone and the qualification of young guides, who will be able to accompany you along the area bordering the Pojuca river.
