The
Praia do Forte is the point with a great variety of activities, in addition
to being the ideal base for excursions by the North Coast of Bahia,
because the excellent highway of the Green Line allows you to arrive
with extreme rapidity and facility at its beaches, then time to return
and to have supper in some of the excellent restaurants of the town.
In effect, in addition to cultural or ecological interest that enlivens
the town, the Garcia D'Ávila’s Castle, the Tamar Project,
or the Reserve of Sapiranga, it is also possible to enjoy those areas
through hiking, bicycle, quadricycle, or by horse, each respecting,
in its own way, the limitations of this Area of Environmental Protection.
You can also go out to sea to observe whales, take a canoe trip by the
lagoon or Pojuca River, parasail, or dive with cylinders or snorkels
as well as to amuse oneself with a simple mask, observing as the little
fish come from colors to eat in your hand.

A different program: leave Praia do Forte in the direction of Salvador,
about one hundred meters after the Pojuca River, turn left on a dirt
road, it is the restaurant Manguezal, constructed in a hut over the
river, opened to the magnificent landscape. The stroll begins going
up on boat the river for half an hour, surrounded by forest, later,
walking another half an hour by its interior, and arriving at “quarentenário”,
a rehabilitation station where wild animals wounded or recovered by
the IBAMA (Brazilian Institute of the Enviroment) from illegal hunters
are taken care by biologists of the Foundation Garcia D'Ávila,
and released when they recover their strength. Returning to the river,
it is crossed in roundtrip, for cables tightened between two towers
mounted in both borders, "landing" in the water when returning
(please, bring your bathing suit). Return to the boat and have lunch,
remain chatting or continue taking a walk for the time that is desired
in canoes, rowing in this wide and placid river of little more of a
meter of depth, of a relaxing serenity, that will end a day to be remembered.
